Financial Appeal Procedure
(
students seeking tuition reimbursement)
Financial Appeals may be submitted if a student had an unforeseeable and unavoidable situation during the semester the charges were incurred that prevented them from attending classes and completing the semester. All appeal letters should be submitted by the student in writing clearly stating the reason for the appeal. Documentation should be attached to all appeal letters to validate the situation. Circumstances that do not qualify for financial appeal include pre-existing conditions, routine pregnancy, employment opportunities and financial hardship, including denial of financial aid. In most cases, any refund that is the result of an approved appeal will be returned to the source of the payment, either the student, the financial aid lender or a third party entity. Financial Appeals should be submitted to the Financial Appeals Committee at SSB CPO 60, 521 Lancaster Ave, Richmond, KY 40475.
Financial Aid Appeal (
students who did not make satisfactory academic progress)
A student who is ineligible to receive financial aid due to failure to meet the standards of satisfactory academic progress may regain his or her eligibility by submitting a written appeal if he or she believes there were documentable, extraordinary circumstances which have been resolved. An appeal may not be based upon a student's need for financial aid or on the student's lack of knowledge that the assistance was in jeopardy.
Appeals must include:
- A Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal Form which is complete and signed. This form can be obtained from the Division of Student Financial Assistance or printed from the website.
- A letter written by the student which clearly states the extraordinary circumstances which my have adversely affected the student's academic performance.
- Documentation of the extraordinary circumstances identified in the student letter. Examples: for medical circumstances: letter from doctor; death in the family (obituary, funeral notice)
